How to make a Zip

Just follow these simple steps and youll have a zip in no time.

-First of all you need to over lock ywo pieces of material together making sure its in a straight line

-Secondly turn the dial to 4.
-Thirdly you will need to losen the screw with a screw driver and chance the sewing foot to a single foot. Make sure the new foot is tightly screwed on.
-After that you need to sew a straight line 1.5 cm from the edge over the material.
-Then you need to open either sides of the stiching so that its al folded out and place the edge ov the zip exactly in the middle between the over locking and the material.
-Then do do the zip up and do the same to the other side

-iron it all to make sure it stays in shape
-The next step is to change the dail back to stitch 3 and to sew a straight line through the middle of the right hand space between the zip and edge of the material, trying not to e to close to the zip. When you get to the end, pivot your material, do 4 stitich, pivot again and repete the same up the other side of the zip
The final result is to unpick the cetrure of your work, open it up, neaten up slightly and there you have it. A zip
Im not a big fan of pattern cutting as i much prefere drawing a designing, although i did find this alot easier than making a skirt. It will all be worth it though.

Our First Ever Garment

On thursday we made our first ever garment, a skirt!
I really liked the thourght of making somthing but when i got down to buissness i found it alot harder than i expected! I didnt manage to finish my skirt in our first lesson as i was getting very wound up, although with a little extra help from trish i managed to complete it this morning and i am very pleased with the outcome.

Before we began to make our skirts we had to make a skirt block wich we will keep for all the other skirts we make.

Our first task in fashion

For our first task we each got given a century from 1900-2010 that we had to research events that happened during those 10 years and how they linked to fashion changes!
The century i got given was 1910-1920! I found out lots of interesting research during those years for instance WW1, titanic sinking, gibson girl, the begining of flappers and many more! The Gibson girl and flapper style realy inspired me as there such differences but yet both so unique and beautiful in there own way.

My first wee at london road fashion collage!

I missed the first week of collage due to a holiday so my first week started on monday! iv had to do a little bit of catching up on the first task in pattern cutting but iv have now got it all done.
I really enjoyed my first week of collage and have met lots of new people!

Paper Drapes

My first ever project was to make dresses out of paper. We were teamed up in pair with people we didn't know so that everybody became more familiar with each other. Each pair got given a particular shape that they had to focus there design on, as you can tell our shape was circles!

We took pictures of our dress throughout the making so that we can see how our dress progressied as we made. We didn't have a plan we just made it up as we went along and luckily it turned out great!
After we had completed our task of making  paper dresses we had to draw them. There was some
examples of past years dress drawing so that we
 could get an idea.
You had to use your imagination in the drawing so i choose to draw it how it looked with a twist, adding an extra small waist on the model and human legs instead of a stand. For extra colour and brightness i did some ink drippings on the side of the page and use magazine cuttings for the models accessories.

Taster Day

On my first taster day session at London roads collage we were set a task by one of the lectures to go to the libary and research information on fashion designers that we had never heard of before! After looking through many fashion magazines and books i finally came across the designer Bill Gibb.
Bill Gibbs designs caught my eye as i found them very interesting and magical to look at. His garments were busy and detailed. When you looked close you could see the amount of work that had gone into his garments. There is a lot of volume used in his garments and details applied to his prints.
